Myakka River 2
Another day on the Myakka river closer to the Gulf.
Don joined ron and I for the afternoon. I had biked with Don in the Catskills last summer. He winters in Florida and just bought a place near Venice.
Ron showing off a little practicing for stand up paddle board.
Ron sat right down again in his boat when he spotted this rather large alligator around the bend.
Beyond impressive.
Luckily wind was at our back for this section and we drifted by with little paddling.
I was paddling very quietly at this point - more like letting the wind take me downstream.
Really really scary!!
He moved closer to the water just after I took this. My thoughts after this was that we had to come back. It at least would be down river but likely into the…
Another not far from the first. this one disappeared into the water behind Ron and in front of Don and I. We were very apprehensive.
Young bald eagle kept ahead of us for awhile.
Tough getting pictures of the eagle.
He kept landing in trees in front of us and then taking off up the river as we got too close. He's dead center in this picture and hard to see.
Short break. My reaction was what are these guys doing in the water. There's alligators!!
Doesn't it look like a hideout for reptiles?
Headed back downstream now. The large alligator was still on the bank. I took no pictures this time going by. It required a little more paddling and don's story…
Turkey vulture. Tree was full of tem but I didn't spot it til they flew.
Some neat houses on the banks. Great view and very quiet but not sure I'd want to be there.
